Valet tray

A valet tray for what leaves the pockets: keys, a watch, rings, coins, held in one deep, rounded well. Its outer faces follow the Relief grid: one square, repeated, each joint holding a thin line of shadow, while the surfaces where things rest stay smooth. Cast by hand in a silicone mould from white cement, marble sand and pigment, the concrete is coloured through its whole mass. Fine pores and pale flecks remain in the surface, different on every piece. The well is left bare or lined with vegetable-tanned leather, wet-moulded to its shape and waxed; the leather darkens slowly with use.
